In 1960, a relatively unknown Roy Orbison sent this song to Elvis, who apparently missed it among the many recordings sent to him for consideration. Thus, Roy did it himself. The song launched his recording career, going to #2 on the Billboard chart & to #1 in the UK for 2 weeks. A rock-opera-ballad, "Only the Lonely" was a new sound that altered forever the rock ’n roll genre.
